Work

I edited the photos for the Star Tribune's end of year photo package, which included our local coverage of the pandemic and the George Floyd uprising.

It took months to gain access into a local hospital's COVID-19 ward. Leila Navidi's image of Michael Wright led the paper, giving Minnesotans one of their first views inside a hospital during the pandemic. Wright, who granted Leila permission to photograph him, died of COVID complications shortly after the story published.

The image of Scott Rhude picking up trash for $2 an hour visually anchored our coverage of the Star Tribune's series "A Matter of Dignity." Working with photographer David Joles, I edited all the photos for the project, both online and in print. It was honored with a number of journalism awards, including recognition as a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

This was one of our many images from the early days of the George Floyd uprisings in Minneapolis. As the Director of Photography for the Star Tribune at the time, I was responsible for managing the photo and video department's coverage during the protests and the Derek Chauvin trial the following spring.

Working with digital designer Anna Boone, I helped select the images for our roundup of the first days of the George Floyd uprising in Minneapolis.

This was one of our poster pages we produced for Brian Peterson's "State of Wonders" photo series. Brian, travel editor Kerri Westenberg and I came up with the project as a way to celebrate Minnesota's natural beauty, through all the seasons.
